Info

Note - some optic transceivers mentioned on this page are only supported by the forthcoming R11 software release. R11 is planned for release in early 2024.

Note

For PAM4 interfaces or SyncE Jitter testing, specific modules MUST be used. These modules have been tested by Calnex to ensure they fulfil the requirements for functionality and performance needed to enable correct operation and guarantee the integrity of the timing measurements. Use of other modules may result in a failed test or incorrect result. More information regarding PAM4 transceivers can be found: https://calnexsolutions.atlassian.net/l/cp/dchS6Mxk

For SyncE Wander and PTP on non-PAM4 interfaces, most modules should work correctly; known exceptions are detailed below. If you have a module that is not recognised, please let us know.

Note

PAM4 100G modules MUST be used with the PAM4 100G interfaces.

PAM4 200G modules MUST be used with the PAM4 200G interfaces.

PAM4 400G modules MUST be used with the PAM4 400G interfaces.

PAM4 400G modules may appear to operate correctly at 200G, but outliers (spikes in time error) may be seen, which will invalidate any results. Modules that don’t support 200G will show a warning indicating "not rate conformant" in the neo GUI.

Note

DAC assemblies must not be used with Paragon-neo. Paragon-neo is not designed for use with DACs, which means that such links are unlikely to work and there is a possibility of damaging your instrument. Such damage would not be covered under CSS.

PAM4

To achieve optimal timing performance when testing using PAM4 optical interfaces, the specific optical modules as listed below MUST be used:

...

  • Hirose, LTD1302-BH: Module does not support multi-byte read. Supported by Paragon-neo version 01.00 and later

  • FS, SFP28-25GSR-85: Some of these modules are configured in a way that Paragon-neo does not recognise; others appear to be OK

  • Coherent (Finisar), FTLX1472M3BCL: These modules support a range of rates from 8.5Gb/s to 11.3Gb/s for Fibre Channel, SDH/SONET and 10GbE. When the CDR is disabled (which Paragon will do under certain circumstances), the module will set the CDR for 8.5Gb/s Fibre Channel and so no link will be able to be established.
