Paragon-X: Release 10.43.31 Peer-to-Peer TC tests may not make Peer Delay measurements

Paragon-X software 10.43.31 may not make Peer Delay measurements correctly when testing in Transparent Clock mode because the default capture filter excludes the DUT SourcePortID. The problem occurs when setting the capture filters from the Master/Slave Emulation GUI and results in a measurement without any Peer Delay results. The problem does not occur during a Debug Packet Capture and is not visible when running a loopback test without a TC DUT.

The solution is to set the capture filters using the Select Flow > Flow Wizard tool.

The two screenshots below show Flow Wizard in use when testing a TC in Peer-to-Peer mode. The first screenshot shows that three groups of messages have been received. In this example, the TC DUT has MAC address 00:01:c1:00:c7:10. The second screenshot shows the groups expanded to see all of the messages.

For correct Peer-to-Peer TC measurements, the capture filters must be set for these messages:

  • Sync, SyncFUP and Announce transmitted from Paragon-X port 1 through the TC DUT,

  • PDelayReq transmitted from Paragon-X port 2,

  • PDelayResp and PDelayResp FUP transmitted from the TC.

These are shown as selected by the blue lines in the screenshot below. Ctrl+click allows you to select multiple messages/groups.

  • The Sync, SyncFUP and Announce messages are grouped into one filter.

  • The PDelayReq message selected must have the Paragon-X port 2 MAC address, d0:00:00:00:00:01 in this example and Paragon-X ClockID.

  • The PDelayResp and PDelayRespFUP messages selected must have the DUT MAC address, 00:01:c1:00:c7:10 in this example, and DUT ClockID.

Set the filters by clicking the Set Capture button.

Check that the filters are correctly set by viewing the Master/Slave Emulation > Flow Filter Status GUI. The source MAC address and Source Port ID for PDelayResp and PDelayRespFUP messages must match your DUT:

Start the capture using the Start Capture button on the left side of the GUI.
