Paragon-neo: Getting Capture Files and Logs

When raising a Service Request with the Calnex Technical Support team, you will often be asked to provide capture data and log files. This article shows you how to find these files for Paragon-neo.

This article describes how to get Session Data (i.e timing captures), Logs, and Diagnostics Data.

Session Folders and Logs

The capture files are stored on the internal filesystem in the instrument. There are now two methods available to download them:

File Explorer

  1. in the Paragon-neo web UI, click System in the top right hand menu then click File Management in the left-hand button list

  2. At the bottom of this screen are displayed instructions on how to connect to the instrument from Windows, Unix and MacOS.

  3. Assuming you are using Windows, copy the URL from the Paragon-neo web UI and paste it into Windows File Explorer address bar. You should see something similar to that shown in the image below.

  4. The Sessions folder contains sub-folders each of which contains all the information for a given measurement / capture. Select the Session folder you want (check the date) and copy the entire folder onto your local PC

Note: you may be asked for a username and password. The required details can be viewed on the Paragon-neo File Management page as per step 1 above.

Log files are also stored on the internal filesystem. These are stored in the top level .\Logs folder

In both cases, the entire folder should be copied to your local PC.

Web UI File Management

Included with release 4.0 and later of Paragon-neo software is an integrated File Management capability which allows the transfer of files to and from the instrument using http rather than Samba. Any network that supports access to the Paragon-neo web UI supports http transfer, so this will avoid any IT policy limitations.

To use this feature, navigate to the System - File Management page as for step 1 above. A representation of the folder structure will be displayed as shown below:

Navigate into the various folders by clicking on the Name item as required. When in a folder, the icons in the top-right corner can be used:

displays a dialogue that allows the upload of files into the current folder

enables the creation of a new folder within the current folder

On each named item line there are four icons for manipulating that item:

deletes the selected item (a confirmation dialogue will be presented before deletion happens)

 renames the selected item

displays a dialogue to copy or move the selected item:

opens a direct link to the selected item in a new browser tab

Multiple items can also be interacted with using the checkbox beside each item. Tick these boxes as required, then use the buttons below the table to perform the required actions on the selection:

NOTE: If the Zip option is applied to a folder name item, the folder's complete contents will be zipped. Take care to ensure only the desired files are contained in such an action, as the zip can take some time to create. Once complete, the zip file will be displayed as a line item and may be downloaded, moved etc. using the icons as described above.

Accessing the Paragon-neo Internal Filesystem

When using the File Explorer method, the filesystem is accessed using Samba. If you cannot access the filesystem this way, it's likely due to the Samba ports being blocked by an IT security policy. To help resolve this, see the details on the P100G page.
