Paragon-neo: How long does a G8273.2 conformance test take?
There are a number of tests listed in the G.8273.2 menu. How long will it take to run them all?
Answer:
The time required to run a suite of conformance tests depends on the capabilities of the device being tested and whether tests are run in parallel or not:
For those clauses that apply to multiple outputs such as 7.3.1 and 7.3.2, by default only the named output will be measured, for example PTP to PTP Noise Transfer (Clause 7.3.1) only selects the PTP output
but time can be saved by also enabling the measurement of the 1PPS signal by ticking its box as the input conditions are the same for both measurements
Given that possibility, the approximate duration of a conformance test can be calculated using the following values:
Clause | Duration | Comment |
---|---|---|
7.1 | 3h 20m | dTE TDEV limits are defined to τ=1,000s, which means a measurement duration of 12τ |
7.2 | 6h 30m | as per GUI |
7.3.1 | 1h 10m | as per GUI |
7.3.2 | 1h 20m | as per GUI |
7.4.1 | 0h 03m | as per GUI |
7.4.2 | 0h 50m | MTIE is specified to τ=1,000s, which means a measurement duration of 3τ |
Thus, assuming measurements for a given clause are run in parallel by measuring both 1PPS and PTP outputs simultaneously, excluding settling and setup time, a measurement time of around 13.5 hours can be expected.
