Release 1113.x of the new Web UI (web browser-based user interface) does not include includes most features that were in the older “desktop” GUI, with the exception of the following features. These features are planned to be added in a future release:

  • "Live" Wireshark - the ability for the SNE to launch Wireshark on the controlling PC and send packet information directly to that instance of Wireshark. Note that this release does include Traffic Capture (the ability to capture packet information to the SNE's storage, for later download and analysis in Wireshark) and Traffic Replay (the ability to play back a previously captured PCAP file at any point in the network emulation map).

  • Timeline automation - the ability in the GUI to set time-based automated changes to the settings of impairment parameters, and to enable/disable impairments automatically at specific moments in time. Note that this release does include a RESTful API for programmatic automation (e.g. using Python scripting or similar).

Also not included in the Web UI, and which may or may not be added in a future release, are:

  • Virtual Routing - the ability to route packets around a network emulation map based on a routing table defined in the SNE GUI.

...

  • SNMP traps - the ability to generate SNMP v1 traps for error and information conditions.

  • PTP synchronisation - the ability to synchronise the SNE hardware to a PTP master.

  • Reports - the ability to generate PDF reports based on packet count etc. Note that the Web UI does include statistical graphs that update in real time (Bandwidth Graph, Packet Count Graph and Interpacket Graph), and these allow you to download their measurements as a CSV file or copy them to the clipboard for pasting into some other application.

Note: an earlier version of this article listed the features that were missing in v11. Since then, version 13.x added support for "Live" Wireshark - the ability for the SNE to launch Wireshark on the controlling PC and send packet information directly to that instance of Wireshark.
