This article relates to SNE versions up to and including version 7.x. It does not apply to the Web UI (web browser-based user interface).
In the Device / Map navigation pane, you may see your instrument with a red icon even when you are connected:
This is a defect in the software. The status icon can be used to determine whether you are connected to your instrument or not. If it shows [IDLE] or a spinning cog wheel, then you are connected:
