Paragon-neo: How do I access the Samba share?

Paragon-neo has a Samba server built in so that Paragon-neo can be mounted as a network drive and files can be easily copied to and from the instrument.

The following steps show how to mount Paragon-neo as a network drive on a Windows PC (Linux and Mac operations are similar).

Note that Paragon-neo functionality has changed slightly between releases:

R5: Added password access to the Samba share

R11: Added ability to enable/disable Remote File Access (Samba) from the GUI

The below steps include instructions for when both the above functionality are on the instrument, if they are not then adjust the procedure accordingly.

  1. Ensure that Remote File Access is enabled on the Paragon-neo. This setting is available in the Remote File Access part of the System → Setup GUI:

  2. To access the files on Paragon-neo through file sharing, copy the URL and access credentials and apply them according to the operating system used on the PC. The URL and access credentials are given for Windows, Linux and Mac PCs in the System → File Management GUI:

  3. For a Windows PC, paste the Paragon-neo URL into the address bar in File Explorer.

  4. Enter the access credentials shown in the the Paragon-neo GUI (they are obscured in the above image by the yellow boxes). Choose to remember the credentials if required.

  5. User accessible files and folders on Paragon-neo will be shown.

  6. Navigate the file structure and copy and paste file and folders as required.

Note: Access can be blocked to the Samba share by an IT security policy, Windows 10/11 by default has disabled access to Samba (SMB) network shares that do not require authentication such as Paragon-neo.

See this FAQ Article for more information and a method to try to enable access.

If it is not possible to access the Samba share then the Web UI File Management function can be used to access files.
